The Hip Hop Re:Education Project is dedicated to supporting and documenting
Global Hip Hop history and culture in order to bring about dialogue and
understanding, to fight injustice and oppression through activism and advocacy,
and to pave the way for the next generation of Hip Hop ARTivists

Founded by Say Word Entertainment, The Hip Hop Re:Education Project is at the forefront of the
arts-education movement. It uses Hip Hop culture to inspire and transform communities,
engage marginalized
and disaffected youth and improve youth motivation and achievement. During the post-industrial
decline of
the South Bronx, Hip Hop’s pioneers used the Elements (MCing, DJing, beatboxing, graffiti art
and Hip Hop dance)
to counteract gang violence and drug use and build positive life-affirming community. Likewise, The Hip Hop
Re:Education Project uses an interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning
that gets back to those roots.
Utilizing the elements themselves as pedagogy, youth are encouraged to commit to a craft and invest
in the
creative process.
Whether in the community, in the classroom, in the recording studio or on stage The Hip Hop
Re:Education Project uses the universal language of Hip Hop to communicate stories of hope and achievement,
fostering dialogue, growth and understanding.
The Hip Hop Re:Education Project has coached youth to perform at a variety of venues, including the
German Consulate in NYC, the New York Knick’s Poetry Slam in Madison Square Garden, the 24 Hour Plays
on Broadway, and even on MTV’s “Made." They have worked extensively at schools, universities and community
centers
throughout the United States
and abroad, developing culturally responsive curriculum for in-school and
after-school settings. As well as facilitating Master Classes with Hip Hop artists
Pharoahe Monch, Talib Kweli, Sadat X and Fab Five Freddy.

BronxBerlinConnection:
A Transatlantic Bridge for Young People
April 17 – 26, The Hip Hop Re:Education Project and Say Word Entertainment hosted a delegation of
18 German youth emcees, singers, beatboxers, visual artists and dancers who were in New York City
on a Hip Hop cultural-exchange trip. The youth performed, attended workshops and met with youth
from throughout the five-boroughs as part of the BronxBerlinConnnection.
Stay tuned for the documentary! Coming this summer!
The BronxBerlinConnnection engages young people from New York City and Berlin, Germany
in a year-round cross cultural exchange program that uses the mediums of spoken word and
music—particularly, rap and hip hop—to explore and express the unique experiences of urban
youth around the world, the critical challenges they face and the solutions necessary to enact change in their
communities. Using the same beats, common lyrical themes and different languages on two separate
continents this program works to not only produce multi-lingual, cross-cultural poems, songs and albums,
but more importantly it seeks to engage today’s youth in a continual process of cultural exchange, raising forth
critical dialogue and fostering mutual understanding. Thus far the BronxBerlinConnection has developed
2 full-length records, facilitated 4 international cultural exchange trips and filmed and released
dozens of music videos and mini-documentaries.
