Friday, September 22nd
Say Word Entertainment presents:
FOURTH FRIDAY at the BOWERY POETRY CLUB

Featuring Universal Truth and Presence!!

About Presence:

Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Presence began drawing a buzz in 1999 on the battle rap circuit in competitons across the country. For the lastseven years, Presence has finalized, won, and competed, in over 35 battles in ten different cities. He just released his third LP in five years, "R.Y.E." Presence's musical growth and direction, years of experience and drive, has him poised to emerge as a leading entertainer in underground hip hop culture. Utilizing a unique brand of production with rock based instrumentalists, Presence has created a tone, sound, and style that combines Jazz, Funk, Rock, Soul, Reggae, and Hip-Hop. Rhyme delivery, personality, and general enthusiam define Presence's shows, music, battles, and character.

About Universal Truth:

Y'all didn't think And I was just gunna go up to Boston and forget about hip-hop, did ya?? Naw... He was asked to join Universal Truth--a Boston-based live hip-hop band--by his old college bassist buddy Ian about three months ago. In that time, they have made rapid progress and played about 15 shows including 2 benefit concerts for local youth centers. In fact, Universal Truth donates 10% of every dollar they make to charity.

Universal Truth will teach you the difference between a band with MCs and a true hip-hop band... This is the real hip-hop here. Yes, you have And I layin' it down on the guitar, Ian on the bass, Josh on the drums, and Brett on the keys/decks. But this is no funk band... These cats lay down original hip-hop beats with flavor for MCs Micah and Profess to get down on... And they do get down...

Say Word Entertainment presents:
FOURTH FRIDAY at the BOWERY POETRY CLUB
Special guests SPOKINN MOVEMENT!

(Click to print and save $2 at the door!)

Spokinn Movement is a Hip Hop collective – consisting of four like minded, but distinctly different, artists – that have performed, recorded, and composed various styles of music. Drawing from their influences and creative inclinations, they bring a fresh perspective to live Hip Hop with a hard driving movement of melodies, groove, interaction, and lyricism. iLLspOkinN's lyrical style commands immediate attention, with a delivery entirely his own, and his writing gives insight to a considerable intellectual depth; one full of anecdotes, joy, pain, experience, and an unparalleled bravado. iLLspOkinN's freestyling skills – staggering in their continuity – and the band's improvisational experience often leads to explosive collective musical journeys at live shows. iLL has won countless emcee battle tournaments and freestyle competitions throughout New York and has shared stages with Hip Hop luminaries such as Run-DMC, KRS-One, Rahzel, and Kurtis Blow, to name a few. Spokinn Movement has a history unrivaled by any commercial or underground band of today. Their extensive roots in Improvisational Jazz, Classical, Hip Hop, Rhythm and Blues, and World music lead them to musical distances as expansive as their collective imagination and experience. If you’ve been to 1 show or 100 shows, you’ll never see the same Spokinn Movement performance twice. Though there timeless music inspires familiarity with their repertoire...their musical acumen and penchant for performance ensures the only thing familiar about each set is the band and the energy..."It's the raw demonstration of culture connection with the soul, live band and a beat.

Say Word Entertainment presents:
FOURTH FRIDAY at the BOWERY POETRY CLUB

In the wake of the Separation of Powers release party at Tonic, Say Word Entertainment presents 3rd Party's Fourth Friday at the Bowery Poetry Club! This month's lineup features a special treat: the official unofficial 3rd Party band. The Band is--Askia on the drums, Ben on the bass, Stephan on the sax, and And I on the guitar. Like an all-night freestyle cypher, the band is live and all improvised--they make the beats up as they go along... DJ Showcase and live art expos TBA. Let's get the warm weather started off right with some all-elements hip-hop... shit, that's all we know how to do!!!

In addition to being the best underground hip-hop show in all of New York, this month's 4th Friday show is also a benefit for our friend Anne at Magic Hat. Anne has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help us out in many ways. She has made our relationship with Magic Hat something real--something more than just business. In a random act of unfairness, her apartment burned and she lost just about everything. So Say Word Entertainment will be donating all of the net proceeds from this month's 4th Friday to Anne in order to help her get back on her feet. If you weren't planning on coming out to the show, we hope this alone will make you change your mind... Featured Act

$5 dollarsCommunity is a big part of what hip hop is about. Uniting groups in the spirit of party rocking, competition, and celebrating. The Filli Foundation crew has been about since the late nineties and are bringing two of our favorite emcees to Medina to rock on December 10th.Core Rhythm /w DJ Drilla—This duo has been getting down for the past year plus. Drilla’s cuts, and grooves with Core’s hard hitting lyrics has rocked many stages in 2005. the BX native is coming to BK on the heels of his first solo release “Nat Turner Reloaded” which has guaranteed to put this brotha on many a government watchdog list.

Tah Phrum Duh Bush—The Warren Buffet of Hip Hop. I say that with all love and sincerity. No one has the skills to grind like this man. At the top of his game lyrically, creatively and matched by a business acumen that makes you remember the name. His solo release “Sunshine or Pure Shade” is a diverse mix of comedy and sick lyrics. The Flatbush native is taking a couple train stops down to the Spoken Words Café to bless us on the 10th.

This month's featured MC is as well rounded with creativity as anyone. Straight out of New Jersey, Hyphen-One represents Hip-Hop to the fullest. As a DJ, an MC, and independent graffiti writer, he is a genuine innovator. Whether he's catching wreck on sound barriers, painting canvases, looping break records, or rocking the microphone, Hyphen-One does it with passion and positive energy. You saw H-1 get loose on a canvas last month. This month you will see him perform a full set with his live hip hop band, Daylow. The band just released their debut, seven song, self-titled EP.

Fourth Friday at the Bowery Poetry Club
Featuring: Straight outta Brooklyn, Tah Phrum Duh Bush is an oddball amongst artists. Dude is so askew from the norm he is often labeled a weirdo-nonconformist-freak... “Hey man this cat just ain’t right!” Yet somehow, strangely, it’s actually quite cool! Tah has been seen on stage doing wide ranges of craziness. Tah can be found in the bowels of New York City on a stage dropping science and knowledge in one instant and in the next he's on the floor humping an imaginary sex partner with the fury of a sex starved bison while prompting the crowd to “Lay that Pipe!” Consequently, Tah Phrum Duh Bush has chosen to represent himself as the antithesis of all; the positive to every negative and the negative to every positive; an oxymoron live in the flesh! To be succinct he’s the epitome of "Filthy-Clean!"3rd Party: We come to rock the party, and you know we rock it right...DJ Showcase: UnknowN. UnknowN is the 2005 NYC DMC champ, a US Finalist, Import Xpression US Finalist, ITF USA finalist, not to mention seriously nasty on the cuts and innovative on the juggling tip. Don't miss his showcase!Freestyle Pyramid: New York's most entertaining Hip-Hop gameshow! If you've never seen it, you owe it to yourself to come check it out...All night dance party: About to wreck your body as we turn the party out!

THE BLOCK

Say Word Entertainment has established one of the hottest and truest Hip Hop monthly events with Fourth Friday's at the Bowery Poetry Club and Café. Over the past year and a half acts such as Sha Stimuli and Wordsworth have graced the stage along with many other talented artists, turntablists and musicians. With their success of helping to re-establish the show as a staple and the backbone of hip hop the need to further premier underexposed talent arose. Say Word's answer was to take it to The Block. This event featuring independent legend, Breezevahflowin of the world renowned Stronghold crew is the opportunity for Say Word to extend their love of the culture and shed light on some of the brightest artist coming out of the independent movement. The night will feature alongside Breez, the hip hop band New Jeru Sun, who have played and toured with such notable groups as the Roots. This New Jersey ensemble has its own unique vibe and the musical talents are apparent in their soulful stage show and feel good rhythms. Core Rhythm is a conscious hard rhymer in the mold of the GZA and O.C. delivering roots music and raw lyrics. Last but not least, 3rd Party brings their usual energy, aura and native flavored awareness on what's going on to the stage. This guarantees to be a night of party rocking, show stopping music bringing you the very best in what independent hip hop has going on.
